Newsman Pro comes with the Advantage Database
Server (ADS) as the built-in database engine. This engine functions
quite well for text newsgroups and smaller binary groups. It is
NOT designed to handle the large volumes of data that would be
processed in a binary newsgroup such as alt.binaries.sounds.mp3
or groups that are even larger. If you want to use Newsman Pro
as a binary downloader, we highly recommend that you download MySQL
or use Microsoft© SQL Server. MySQL is available using the
links at the top of this page, while Microsoft© SQL Server
is available directly from Microsoft.
When processing headers, MySQL and SQL Server are approximately
1000 times faster than ADS. They are also about 3 times faster
for other general purposes such as browsing messages and downloading
articles.

While Newsman Pro should work reliably
with any news server, it has been extensively tested with the following
subscription news providers:
In addition, we have also tested with many private news servers
that are available for product support and educational purposes
(Microsoft, for example). We are committed to supporting all NNTP-compliant
news servers and will work with you and your news provider to resolve
any issues that may arise in getting Newsman Pro to connect to
a news server. |
