It took a LONG time to do the entire update process. Had to jump through a lot of hoops of installing a bunch of patches [didn't even know that SP1 was out for VS 2008!], lots of rebooting but it was a total success. This has been my first MS-SQL upgrade that I have ever done like this. Usually, I will detach the tables, uninstall the old version, install the new version and reattach the tables but it did go quite smoothly. Yeah, I even teach DBA stuff but haven't actually done an upgrade before :0

How does NMP handle a fresh database build under 2008?

Haven't tried a fresh database build yet - I'll do that later on today. Back at work again, spoiling yet another day off trying to get stuff done

Just created a new database from NMP using SQL 2008 - works great!
