My new Maxtor 500gbs hard drive failed on me after 1 month. Never had good luck with Maxtors, probably why Maxtor was the first company to drop their warranties down to 1 year. (lack of faith on the quality of their own products?)
Hopefully now that Seagate has bought out Maxtor, their quality will pick up.
Also, watch out for eVGA video cards rebates. They stiff me on a $20 dollars rebate. They said it was late even though I sent it in timely. |

Yes, it seems that companies are now starting to really screw customers submitting mail-in rebates.
I walked into a CompUSA a month ago and right there in the aisle was a display box containing packages of 50 feet of Cat6 cable priced at US $50, but $30 off via a mail-in rebate.
I bit and purchased the cable, since I was convinced that $19 for 50 feet of Cat6 cable was a pretty good deal (I have a 1Gbit NAS attached to a Gbit switch and Gbit network on my desktop PC running NMP).
CompUSA offered a website to submit the rebate, so I entered the required info that night. I immediately received an email back stating that the register receipt info had not been received by their rebate office yet but that normally takes up to one week.
Two weeks after that I received another email denying the rebate. The stated reason was that there was no rebate program for that product going on during the date I purchased the cable.
So, for reneging on my $30 rebate CompUSA lost me as a customer for ever. A$$hats. _________________ Regards,

Oddly, I've never had a failure on the 7 or so drives I purchased from Maxtor over the last 5 years, mostly 250G 7500 RPMs. They do tend to run hot and noisy.
On the other had I've had to RMA 2 Western Digital drives, also 250s. Was not to pleased that the replacements were re-manufactured units, but they seem to be working alright.
On rebates, I've had them denied for bogus reasons in the past as well. But I find of I call the cust service number that comes with the denials and challenge them, they send it. Doubles the time they have your money though. |
