I have Astraweb and have noticed more and more nzb downloads not being repairable due to too many missing parts.
A thread on filesharingtalk.com hints that this is probably due to DMCA takedown requests.

I don't know if getting a block account with another will help much, since all the "major" servers are being hit with the same takedown requests. I was considering a NewsDemon block account, but NewsDemon reviews were not good.
What is odd is that the whole post isn't removed, just enough to make it non-repairable, so you end up using your bandwidth, ISP quota and if you have a measured news server (like a block account), you use that up too.
I don't know if different news servers remove different parts of the post, or if it just takes a long time for the news servers to actually "purge" all the parts.
Does anyone know of a way to determine if the post is complete on a server or set of servers before committing to the download of all the message bodies? I used to use nzbver, but it got removed by my antivirus as a Trojan. In the past this was an accurate indication of whether the bodies existed on Astra, but I have been told that the presence of headers is no guarantee of the body actually being there; only attempting to download the body is a reliable indicator.
Has anyone else noticed more non-repairable downloads? |

I don't have anything else to add besides what I sent you via email. I caution you or anyone responding to this post to not get too specific about what's going on. We and every other Usenet-related forum are being watched.

That's correct. Even NZB search sites collate headers. Until you ask for the body, you don't know if it's there or not. You can see this with Astra, where the header is there, but requesting the body gets you a DMCA removed error. The system is automated at both ends, so no one is checking, and it all happens quickly. Given the number of false/malicious/incorrect takedowns the likes of Google get, I'm sure there's a lot that's just wrong.

Not particularly, though it probably depends on what sort of content you download. I know that some of the popular US TV shows get hit regularly, but they just get reposted later. It seems a bit silly, as in many countries, they get aired 4-8 weeks later where people like me (who pay for cable and watch programmes on free-to-air channels) just Tivo them and skip over the ads anyway. If they transmitted these things without a large time gap, no one would bother downloading them in the first place. |
