Just wanted to thank you for the suggestion to try Wine under Linux. NewsmanPro actually works well (Debian Etch linux flavour). One thing that somehow doesn't work as it should is the use of 'browse' buttons and 'new directory' in defining where to store stuff in folders. But then editing the line with the proper setting does work, so probably some small incompatibility via Wine. Anyway, it works and works fast as well!

Thank you by the way. I was using agent before and was so impressed with this product. When I saw a friend of mine using it, I could not believe how much better and that he must have tricked it out. Out of the box, it was easy and I did have a small learning curve but I am so impressed with the capability. I will be recommending it to everyone who asks.

I have experience with at least four other newsreaders (off the top of my head - OE, Thunderbird, Gravity, and Dialog) over the past fifteen years of newsgroup browsing and none of them offer the power of NMP's automation rules.

I've been an Agent user for years. Every year or so I try out a few other newsreaders in the hopes that one of them will work as well and address some of the shortcomings. Usually one package will do one thing well, but be a step back in another area... so I've always stuck with Agent. Finallly... NMP does everything... and I mean everything! You've intelligently implemented every single feature I ever thought would be helpful, plus a bunch I never conceieved of. It's probably a bit overwhelming for a first time usenet user... but if you know what your doing, and what you want to do - it's fantastic. You take a bit of a speed hit on the initial dbase population steps, but you've really minimized that impact with the very clean threading model and task scheduling (in the [registered] version). I just finished a test. I downloaded some binaries using Xnews and had a number of files that were coded as
"errors" when I tried to extract them. I then used your product on the exact same files. All binaries were error free and I was able to put them back together successfully with Winrar. Again thanks...
