Automatic Header Expiration

print

Newsman Pro has the ability to automatically expire (and optionally, delete) headers that are no longer available on your news server. This feature can be useful for you if you elect to retain many days worth of headers in your database, and:
  • You only use a single news server, or
  • You only ever retrieve headers from the server that has the longest retention time

By default, this feature uses the global setting in the Settings - Header Retrieval. This setting can be overridden on a per Workgroup and/or newsgroup subscription basis. To configure this feature, switch to the Workgroups View (F10) and right-click on the Workgroup or newsgroup to be configured and select "Properties".

From this dialog, you can override the global article expiration setting for the entire Workgroup by selecting the desired option at the top of the window. Click "Apply Changes" to save your settings.

If you want to set your preferences for each newsgroup subscription individually, simply click "Details" and set your options for each group, clicking "Apply Changes" between groups.

From the Workgroups View, you can also configure these options for a newsgroup subscription directly by expanding the Workgroup, right-clicking on a newsgroup and selecting "Properties".
