Each filterable item is joined by an implicit "AND".
Filter Styles
Newsman supports three styles of filtering for Subject and Author data:
Google-style
- “cat”: cat
- “cat” and “hat”: cat+” hat” (this prevents “that” from matching)
- “cat in the hat”: “cat in the hat” (using quotes tells NMP to search for the entire phrase)
- “cat” or “darned”: cat darned
- “cat” but not “darned”: cat-darned
In summary, use a “+” between words or phrases to find messages with both. Use “-“ between words or phrases to find messages with one but not the other. Use “ “ (a single space) between words to find messages containing any word or phrase. Wrap phrases in quotes to search for the phrase, or use quotes to add spaces to words.
Regular Expressions
Newsman supports Perl 5 compatible regular expressions. You can create negative regular expressions by adding a "!" as the first character of the expression.
Literal Expression
Finds messages containing the exact word or phrase entered.
