Installation
Run the setup file that you downloaded from the NewsMan Pro website. If you are a registered user, you will be sent a link to the Registered User's Area where you can download the full version.

Updating NewsMan Pro with newer versions
Use the Help->Check for updates feature to see if you are running the latest version. To update your version, download the appropriate update file and run it. All of your settings and data will always be retained between versions.

Upgrading to the full version
If you are using the Freeware version and purchase the Registered version, simply download the update package from the Registered User's Area and install it on top of your existing Freeware installation.

Multiple database engine support
By default, NewsMan Pro uses the Advantage Database Server for data storage. For text groups and light binary downloading, this should be all that is required. However, if you desire a faster, more robust database engine, the following third-party engines are supported:

  • MySQLwww.mysql.com (You can download a version supported by Newsman Pro from our “Downloads” page.)
  • MSSQLwww.microsoft.com (SQL Server 2000/MSDE and SQL Server 2005/SQL Express)

MySQL is open-source and free for personal use. MSSQL has free versions in their MSDE and SQL Express versions. Choose the engine you would like to use and install it onto the computer. Advanced users can have the database on a separate server and Newsman can connect to it remotely.
