Settings - Article Retrieval

print

Automatically save attachments after downloading - Enable this to have Newsman automatically save message attachments after downloading. Note that this setting only applies to articles downloaded with a priority between 5 and 9.

Also save attachments in priority messages - Enable this to have Newsman save attachments in messages downloaded with a priority between 1 and 4.

Save to <Download Folder>\<Newsgroup> - Saves attachments to the download folder specified when Queued in a subfolder named after the source newsgroup.

Use descript.ion files - As attachments are saved, relevant information about each attachment is saved to a descript.ion file in each destination folder. By default, the descript.ion file will contain the filename of the attachment and subject. Use the format editor to add additional information to the descript.ion file.

Mark messages read after saving attachments - Marks the message read after attachments have been saved to disk.

Download articles in reverse expiry order - By default, Newsman downloads all articles in the order that they are estimated to expiry. In some cases, this may not be desirable. This option reverses the download order.

Skip to next server on "Server Sent Bad Data" error - By default, when a news server sends the wrong article, Newsman will retry the article up to 3 times and then mark the job as having an error. If you don't want to wait for the news server to correct itself, you can have Newsman simply move on to the next server in the server priority list whenever this occurs.

Skip server if newsgroup is not in server's group list - When using prioritized servers, Newsman will attempt to download an article from each server in the priority order that you specify. If you never want to use a particular server for a specific newsgroup, enable this option and then disable the server by using the "Manager Server Group Access" feature in the Workgroups View.

Skip server if the server's download limit is reached - By default, Newsman will pause downloads if the next priority server's download limit has been reached. Once the server is reset (either automatically or manually) the downloads will resume. Enable this option to have Newsman simply move on to the next priority server instead.

Show mouse hints in queue list - By default, Newsman Pro display a hint contain relevant information about the job under the mouse pointer. You can disable these hints by unchecking this box.

Move original attachment when saved to another location - By default, if you save an attachment again, you will have two copies of the attachment. To change this behavior, enable this option and attachments will be moved to the new location instead.

Double-click on topmost header downloads entire thread - By default, double-clicking on any text message will only queue the message that was double-clicked. By enabling this option, the selected message and any children will be queued. This only applies to message threads, not article groups. Article groups have this behavior by default.

Auto-Delete Options

  • Do not delete - This is the default setting. Newsman will save your attachments and keep the body in the database.
  • Delete body only - After auto-saving an attachment, the body is deleted from the database.
  • Delete body and move header to Trash - After saving an attachment, the body is deleted and the header is moved into the Trash folder.
  • Remove entire message from database - After saving an attachment, the header, body and all parts of the message are completely purged.

Exclusions
Use this feature to exclude certain file types from being automatically removed from the database.

Use File System
By default, Newsman stores all bodies in the database. To minimize your database size and to reduce load on your PC, enable this option and Newsman will store all bodies in the folder you specify. These bodies are completely managed by Newsman and the above Auto-Delete options can still be used.
