When messages are deleted by an
Automation Rule,
Kill Filter,
Scheduled Task or by you, they are, in most cases, only marked as deleted in the database and can be recovered from a special folder named "Trash". The exception to this is when messages are deleted using the "Delete Permanently" option when deleting messages from the message list, or when deleting messages from the
Downloaded Files view.
This folder can be accessed by clicking on the "Trash" item in the Navigator, or by opening the Trash from the
Workgroups view.
When the Trash view is first accessed, no deleted messages are initially displayed. To display deleted messages, enter the desired criteria by selecting the appropriate options:
- Workgroup - Restricts search to a particular Workgroup
- Newsgroup - Restricts search to a single newsgroup
- Subject Contains - Finds deleted messages containing the search string in the subject
- Author Contains - Finds deleted messages containing the search string in the author (from) field
- How Deleted - Finds deleted messages that were deleted by a particular method
Deleted messages are displayed using the following colors and font options:
- Green Highlight - Message is complete
- Red Highlight - Message is incomplete
- Bold Text - Message has been downloaded
Using the Trash folder interface
Like all views in NewsMan Pro, all actions can be executed by using the toolbar or context menu.
- Refresh List - Searches the database for deleted messages matching your selected search criteria
- Restore Selected Messages - Restores selected messages from the Trash folder to the group where they were deleted from.
- Restore All Messages - All deleted messages in the database (not just messages that are currently visible) are recovered from the Trash folder back into the group from which they were deleted.
- Purge Selected Messages - Selected messages are permanently removed from the database.
How Deleted Options
When a message is deleted in NewsMan Pro, how it was deleted is recorded in the Trash folder
For messages deleted by an
Automation Rule or
Scheduled Task, clicking the "How Deleted" entry will display the appropriate rule or task.
